On Stage at SUMMER NAMM 2021: Navigating Business In Times Of Unrest

In July 2021, I had the honor of being a presenter at the Summer NAMM trade show. The NAMM Show is an annual event in the U.S. that its organizers describe as “the world’s largest trade-only event for the music products, pro audio and event tech industry”.

Interestingly, the invitation for me to speak grew out of an article I’d written earlier which looked at the effect of civil unrest on business. A few informal conversations with my NAMM contact revealed a surprisingly progressive attitude and a real awareness of the need to tackle issues that at times can be uncomfortable to talk about.

After being formally invited as a presenter, I took a much deeper dive into the subject, and interviewed retailers, HR specialists and colleagues in the business. I’m truly proud of the result – the talk I gave provided both practical and social perspectives about doing business during a time of civil unrest. Attendees left with a better understanding of how current societal issues can impact their business, along with a solid foundation for creating “an emergency plan for civil unrest”.
